#0017 Staying on Track in 2023

Writer: AlexanderAlexander

I don’t know about you, but I’m forgetful. It’s easy to get off track and wander aimlessly. Thankfully, there are a lot of helpful applications that can keep us pointed in the right direction. In this post, I’m going to discuss the applications that I use to supplement my memory and stay productive.

But first, Happy New Year! I’m posting this blog now, because it just might help you stay on top of your resolutions. I know these applications help me.

At the top of my list is Tasks: To Do List & Tasks. This app is available on the web and on android devices. If you have Apple, you’re out of luck. I primarily use it on my phone, but it also backs up to the website, which I’ve used occasionally. I live by this app most days.

I’ve used a lot of apps like this over the years. I’ve switched around a good deal, because I was never really that happy with them. Well, now I’m completely satisfied. This app has a 4.8 on Google Play and I’d give it a 5 star rating.

Tasks allows you to create multiple list, and within those lists, you can have sub list. For example, I have a ZanderverZ list. Within it I have a sub list for urgent items, long‑term to do items, story ideas, and more. It helps a great deal being able to sort tasks into sub list. I also have a list for my accounting job and for personal stuff. Each of those lists has sub list to sort what’s urgent and other categories.

The usefulness of this application is nearly endless. It’s great as a general to do list. It’s great as a grocery list. It’s great for a project checklist. It’s great for everything, just about. There’s a lot of functionality here, and I’ve only mentioned the basics I use. This is probably my top rated application to stay on track. I pop it open every time I have something new I want to remember.

Next on my list is Any.do. This is available on the web, android, iPhone, Windows PC, etc. It’s available almost everywhere. I only use this application for ZanderverZ. I have it synced to my computer and my phone.

Unlike Tasks, I set due dates with Any.do. It’s very similar to Microsoft Teams, which is very popular these days. In Any.do You make task, sets due dates, assign tags, create sub task, and much more. This application is very easy to use. I have a list for each ZanderverZ project, and generally, view tasks by due date for the next seven days. It’s fundamental for reminding me when to do these blog posts.

I wanted to have something to split off the specific tasks for ZanderverZ from my personal reminders. I believe Tasks will also let you set due dates, but I don’t have any use for that function with what I enter in Tasks. Any.do allows me to have an application just for ZanderverZ with reminders for projects and lists to track each project. It’s very helpful, and I recommend it. It’s very easy to use.

The third and final application on my list is Life Reminders. This is an android only application. For my purposes, I only use this for reoccurring personal reminders, and it’s great for that.

Did I mention I’m getting forgetful in my old age? I need to remember to take the trash out on Thursday nights. Well, I will never forget that, because I have this application on my phone.

The application allows you to set up reoccurring reminders for weekly, bi-weekly, monthly, and so on. When it’s time, the app pops up a notification on my phone with options to snooze it for any imaginable amount of time. This is extremely handy. I’m not always available to take at the trash at 8PM on Thursday. Just click the hour snooze button, and it’ll remind me again in an hour. If it wasn’t for this application, I would have died from starvation, because I’d forget to pick up groceries after work.

I don’t think this application provides much for checklist functionality like the other two applications, but it’s perfect for setting timed reminders. I recommend it, for sure.

I hope you've enjoyed this quick overview of the application that I use to stay on track. Maybe you’ve found something here that will help with your life.

Note that I’m not affiliated with any of these applications. I don’t get any benefit if you use them or not. I just think they’re helpful. There are a great deal of other options, but these have been the most useful for me.

The most important thing is that you don’t forget that thing. What was it? Let me check my app. There it is! Don’t forget to remember.
