#0026 The Premise & The Novel

Every great book starts with a small premise, a captivating idea that sets the foundation for the story. From the darkest horrors to the happiest love stories, a strong premise forms the core of a book, drawing readers into the narrative. In this article, I’m going to talk about the compelling premise that led to my current project, “He’s Going to Kill You.”

Have you ever wondered how a small idea can blossom into a captivating novel? I’ve recently embarked on that writing adventure with my recent project, and I’d like to share my journey with you. It all started with a single idea about a date and an ominous note. That was all.

He's Going to Kill You

Long before I started writing the novel, I envisioned the first chapter with a sweet couple on their first date. It starts with some first date awkwardness, but they quickly warm up to each other. While he leaves her at the table to use the restroom, she embarks into a thrilling scenario. The waitress drops off a chilling note indicating that her date is going to kill her. At the moment she reads the last word, he returns from the bathroom. That simple premise became the foundation for the novel.

While working on other projects, I’d occasionally brainstorm all the different twists and turns this novel could take from the premise. I was amazed at how a small concept could be so captivating. What does she do next? Is the note legit? How does the waitress know his intentions? Who even is she? So many questions are generated by this simple opening.

The first chapter of the novel covers the first date and ends with the note. From there, I let the characters take me on their journey. Even I was surprised by some of their decisions. It’s been an exhilarating process that allows the imagination to run wild, exploring uncharted territories and pushing the boundaries of storytelling. Each chapter brings fresh surprises and challenges, shaping the narrative in unforeseen ways. As an author, I’ve come to appreciate the power of a captivating idea and its ability to transform a blank page into a compelling story. Though the editing process is still ongoing, the content of the novel is substantially complete, and I can tell you that you’ll be shocked to see where the story goes.

Remember, a book is more than just an idea — it’s a journey waiting to be shared. This thrilling adventure will be ready for you this December. Be sure to look for “He’s Going to Kill You” on Amazon this Christmas winter.
