#0027 Author Life: Book Clubbin

I’ve written you a haiku to express how I feel about July.

Time flies, and so did July! The month brought exciting new opportunities and connections for me as my association with PandaMania’s Bamboo Book Time has taken off. Let me take you through the delightful experience I had during this exciting month.

Early in July, an old friend from my days at Wal-Mart reached out to me for a lunch meetup, eager to discuss my book, "The Visions of Bezek." At first, I was skeptical, half-expecting to be presented with some sort of Ponzi Scheme. However, to my pleasant surprise, he spoke with me about an online book club he was part of.

We tossed around some ideas about the club reading my books, and after some fruitful brainstorming, I prepared a proposal for them. If you're curious about how it all went down, they record their club meetings. You can listen to the pitch and their discussion here. Spoiler Alert: They loved it!

Not long after, I had the incredible opportunity to join one of their club meetings and give them an introduction to the ZanderverZ. Together, we devised a plan for them to journey through The Veil Maze. This prequel novella offers an excellent entry point into the world I’ve crafted. As of the time I’m writing this, they have already covered the first four chapters, and it has been an enlightening experience to witness these brilliant minds dissecting the passages of The Veil Maze. The honor of having my novella read by the group cannot be put into words; it's a unique and amazing journey. In the last part of each discussion, I join to provide some insight and answer a few questions, providing them with a special reader experience.

That’s certainly been the high point for my July. My wife and I also saw the 2023 Super Mario Bros. Movie. It was expectedly a charming and exciting adventure. I’m a little confused by the voice acting and music choices, but otherwise, I enjoyed it. Unfortunately, I then talked my wife into watching the 1993 Super Mario Bros. movie. That was a mistake. It’s rare that I find a movie painful to watch, but that thing is an abomination. Steer clear.

CURRENTLY LISTENING:

REUNION, a captivating track from the iconic 1997 Final Fantasy VII videogame. Thankfully, the OST is on Spotify. I often find that too much is missing from Spotify’s collection. Especially in the category of videogames and anime. Final Fantasy VII holds a special place in my heart as it marks my first true RPG experience. The moment of randomly purchasing it from a Wal-Mart bargain bin, knowing nothing about the game at the time, turned out to be a life-changing event.
